painting2.gifBOHRA THE KANGAROO

There was a time in blackfellows land when the night came down like a black cloud and veiled the world in darkness, letting neither moon nor stars be seen.  But as "Bohra" the Kangaroo liked to feed at night he objected to this darkness and being a great wisinum he determined to put an end to it.  So he rolled back the darkness as if it had been a rug and let in the moon and stars.  He felt very pleased with himself when he was able to see to feed during the night and go about as he pleased on his four legs, for in those days "Bohra" the Kangaroo went on four legs like a dog.  One night while feeding he heard noises away in the bush.  He followed the noise to a camp, where he saw people singing and dancing on two feet, and dragging his tail on the ground leaving marks on it.  The men let him dance with them because he showed them a new way to dance.  So forever shall his tribe move, jumping on their hind legs and fore feet shall be as hands and his tail shall balance him
