BROLGA STORY Many years ago a number of tribes lived close together and a young lady from one of the tribes would always dance and every one loved the way she danced so gracefully and elegantly. The young woman was promised to an elder from another tribe, however the young lady had fallen in love with a younger man from her tribe. They were forbidden to be together as she was already spoken for. The two loved each other so deeply they decided to leave their families and homeland. The older man who was promised the young lady went out in search of her. He had intentions to kill both of them. As the elder began fighting with the younger male a huge whurly whurly wind had come and lifted the three of them up into the sky. The groups set out in search of the three and found their footprints in the dirt. However, there were no prints leading away and the elders of the group told their people that they had been taken by the wind spirit. Some time later two large beautiful coloured birds appeared to the tribes and the people from the tribes watched as the two birds danced, and danced. The people in the group watched and called the birds the Dancing Brolgas.
